The range of BAYKAL Vertical Machining Centers provides exceptional stability and rigidity via their unique welded steel construction desing using innovative concepts, to unsure maintaining of precision over the whole of the work envelope.
The BAYKAL Machine structure is called PYRAMID structure which differs from that of conventional machine centers.
The PYRAMID structure ensures complete support of saddle table end work load over the wlole length of the bed whereas conventional construction involves extensive everhang of the saddle and table sideways, outside the bed which causes deflection droop at extreme ends of the X axis travel thus causing inaccuracies, especially with heavy workpieces.
The main advantages of the PYRAMID construction and disadvantages of conventional structures are described below.
| CONVENTIONAL CONSTRUCTION DISADVANTAGES |
BAYKAL PYRAMID CONSTRUCTION ADVANTAGES |
| |
|
1. Elastic droop deflection when table and workpiece load are at extreme ends of X axis travel, causing inaccuracies.
2. Limitation of X axis travel obtainable, because of saddle overhang and narrow bed. |
1. No possibility of droop deflection since saddle and table are fully supported over whole length of X axis travel.
2. X axis travel possible over any length enabling machining of heavy and long work pieces. |
Another point which can be indicated ( but not seen ) on the machine is the fact that on both X and Y axes each guide rail has 3 runner blocks ( carriages ) which means that for both table and saddle we have 6 supporting carriages each which prevent any deflection under heavy work pieces weight.
The BF60200 machine has 8 carriages two on each guide rail supporting the table on 4 guide rails.
| STRUCTURAL FEATURES OF BAYKAL MACHINING CENTERS |
| BED |
All welded steel construction enables incorporation of solid plate partitioning instead of the wall webbing as used in conventional iron machine center beds. ( see figure X )
The addition of a welded full plate floor. ( see figure Y ) creates a closed box structure which is optimum for extreme rigidity and strength of the bed to support heavy machining and load forces.
The chip flow glacis is an integral part of the welded machine base body ( see figure Z ) ensuring no possible coolant leakage as occurs in the normal bolted on sheet metal machine enclosure . The glacis also provides additional rigidity to the base structure.
The machine enclosure is seated on the top edge of the glacis which greatly simplifies the enclosure, enabling easy removal and reassembly to provide easy access for maintenance purposes.
